Free Event Provides Resources and Community for Madison Families

The Madison School District is inviting families to the first Family, Youth and Community Day this Saturday, January 28 from 10:30am to 3:00pm at the Badger Rock Neighborhood Center. The event is free for all families and will include a resource fair, workshops for students and adults and a community lunch.

“As our schools work to engage families in directly supporting their child’s learning, our district is also working to provide families with the resources they need to be the best advocates for their children,” Nichelle Nichols, director of family, youth and community engagement said. “We hope this day will provide valuable support and community for our families.”

The event is part of the district’s Parent Academy, a resource for Madison school families that provides workshops and trainings for parents throughout the year. Families will have the opportunity to learn about topics such as financial literacy, mindfulness for managing stress, restorative justice, immigration resources, advocating for students and more. A full list of workshops and schedule is available on the district’s website.

Childcare, transportation and interpretation will be provided upon request and more information is available online. Some sessions will also be conducted in Spanish.
