The Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD) announced today the launch of Parent Academy, a new hub for parent learning and leadership in MMSD. With courses and workshops offered in person, online, and even over the phone, Parent Academy aims to provide centralized access to free learning opportunities that help parents and other caregivers support and advocate for their children’s education.
“Families are essential partners for our students’ success,” Superintendent Jennifer Cheatham said."Through Parent Academy, we hope to provide more families with the guidance they need to support their children in school, develop parent leadership capacity, and to learn how to advocate for the education of their own and each other’s children.”
Along with sessions offered by MMSD staff, learning opportunities will also be provided by national experts and community partners. The roster of Parent Academy courses and workshops includes topics such as include early childhood development, navigating special education systems, and meeting advanced learning needs. Parent Academy also offers vocational training opportunities for families.
Parent Academy listings are online at www.mmsd.org/parent-academy, and also appear in the new MSCR catalog. For more information or to find out how you can get involved in Parent Academy as a participant or as a facilitator, contact the MMSD Family and Community Engagement Department at 663-5977.
